Operation Vula Fund (KZN)

KZN-based small businesses and co-ops can apply for grant funding of up to R2 million through the Operation Vula tiered application forms (download from kznedtea.gov.za). Applications must be hand-delivered to the EDTEA Head Office at 270 Jabu Ndlovu Street, Pietermaritzburg or any EDTEA district office - email, fax and post are not accepted. Durban Textile and Leather Incubator (DTLI)

DTLI is an eThekwini-supported business incubator for clothing, textile, footwear and leather SMMEs in Durban and surrounding KwaZulu-Natal. It offers structured incubation: access to industrial sewing machines at a nominal charge, market access, compliance support, and help connecting to funders - it does not publish its own grant or loan amounts. Ithala Business Finance

Ithala Development Finance Corporation still offers business finance to KwaZulu-Natal businesses (CIPC-registered entities, partnerships, trusts or sole proprietors), through two funds: the Enterprise Development Fund (51 percent minimum black ownership) and the IDFC Fund (26 percent black ownership OR B-BBEE level 4 - either qualifies). The banking-arm liquidation saga did not shut down IDFC lending - the application was withdrawn in early 2026 and the site actively accepts funding applications. IDFC funding solutions span R1,000 to R25 million overall; product-specific ranges are not published.

TIKZN Export Development and Promotion Support

Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal helps KZN businesses start and grow exporting through training workshops, an emerging-exporter programme, export-readiness assessments, trade missions and exhibition support - these are services, not a cash grant. Two limited cost-sharing incentives exist alongside them: BEEFA covers 60 percent of travel and accommodation to foreign markets for approved applicants, and the Technical Assistance Fund offers a non-repayable grant of up to 50 percent of project-packaging costs (max R250,000, or R300,000 for majority black female, youth or disabled-owned firms).
